Students' Night Event

The student social event will take place on the evening of Monday 23 June. Anyone attending the conference is welcome to participate in this event.

June 23 in Denmark is Sankt Hans Aften, the Scandinavian midsummer celebration. This celebration dates back to the Vikings, who lit bonfires to ward off evil spirits. The tradition of lighting bonfires continues today and is typically accompanied by speeches and singing traditional Danish songs.

We would like to invite you to join us for the Sankt Hans Aften celebration at Lindholm Høje, just north of Aalborg city center. Lindholm Høje is a major Viking burial site and settlement, dating back to 500-1000 AD. Today there is a museum there, which shares the history of Lindholm Høje and the region. At the museum and Viking hill we will be told some of the history of the area and have something to eat before the main celebration kicks off at 9 pm. The celebration includes a speech by famous Danish author Peter Adolphsen (in Danish), singing by Aalborg chamber choir Coro Misto, and of course the bonfire.

17.00 Workshops finish at Aalborg University. There will be some light refreshments following the workshops for the Student Social Night participants.
18.00 Bus departs from Aalborg University (the parking lot across the street from Fredrik Bajers Vej 7, next to Fredrik Bajers Vej 3).
18.25 Bus departs from Aalborg Congress & Culture Center.
18.40 Arrive at Lindholm Høje where light dinner will be given out. Admission to the museum is free all evening.
For anyone making their own way there, the address is: Vendilavej 11, 9400 Nørresundby.
19.30 Presentation at Lindholm Høje. Meet outside the front entrance to the museum (on the Viking hill side).
20.30 Sankt Hans aften celebration starts.
21.00 Bonfire is lit.
23.00 Bus departs Lindholm Høje for Aalborg, stopping only at the Aalborg Congress & Culture Center.

Please remember to bring warm clothes, sensible shoes (and perhaps an umbrella depending on the weather) for the Students' Night Event. This whole event will take place outdoors and evenings in June can be chilly in Denmark (weather forecast here).

We are really looking forward to seeing you all there!
